Inquiry About Multi-Antenna and MIMO Gain Support in 5G SLS

Dear Developer Team,

I hope you are doing well. I am using the 5G SLS simulation platform and encountered a warning stating,

“The current implementation of DAS is not finished yet. Simulation may run into an error” – parameters\basestation\Parameters.m

when configuring a base station with multiple antennas. I would like to kindly clarify two points: First, does this mean that in the current version, a single base station is not allowed to have more than one antenna attached? Second, if multi-antenna configurations are restricted, does this imply there is currently no way to achieve MIMO-related gains (such as spatial multiplexing or beamforming gains) through antenna configurations in the simulator? Any insights you could share about these limitations or potential workarounds would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much for your time and assistance.

Best regards,

NickJay

Dear Nick_Jay,

to configure MIMO transmissions in the 5G SLS simulator, the number of antenna elements at the antennas attached to a base station needs to be configured, i.e., the property nTX should be set to the desired number of antenna elements. For most antenna types, the antenna elements are arranged in a uniform linear array. To set up a two-dimensional array, the AntennaArray antenna type needs to be used.

Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS), where a user is served by two separate transmitters, e.g., a base station and a remote radio unit, are not supported by the current implementation.

I hope this clarifies the meaning of the error message.

Best regards,
Agnes

Dear Agnes,

Thank you for your prompt and clear response—this clarifies my questions perfectly. I appreciate your help!
